As we all know by now, 2020 was a pretty cursed year. All my music contracts dried up and I got a retail job to get me through lockdowns. This meant I had far less time for anything musical and so very little of this was original. The meditations were mostly written in 2019 and finished up in January of 2020 - before COVID lockdowns. Niko no Demo’s first draft was written in 2019, and the demo was built slowly over six months of 2020. Other than that, everything else here is repurposed older material.

#12: Niko no Demo

Here’s the demo for a full one-act prog rock musical. The very first draft was finished right before COVID hit, so I had nothing to do but sit and edit. Then when COVID lockdowns were still in place, I had nothing to do except record a demo of the entire show (minus most dialogue).

The show is a prog/metal show about the first ever incel to go to therapy, a harem anime where the protagonist gets to date her alter egos. Content warning: features foul language, slurs, violence, sexual themes, and highly illegal catgirls.

At the moment the only hope is to submit to any place looking for original musical theater content, and as of the end of 2022 most theaters still haven’t opened submissions. If you want to take a look at the script, just contact me and I’ll probably just send a copy your way or give you access to the file, idc.

#11. keyofw’s book of scales

No. 11 Front Cover.png

It’s just a simple book of exercises that I wrote with my own students in mind, but you may find them useful. Mind you, the students never practiced, so I was just wasting my time I guess, but it’s the thought that counts. Many of my students were absolute beginners, and so these are exercises for absolute beginners. Unfortunately, that gig dried up since COVID, so I’m not currently using this book.

There’s a link below to purchase it. But I’m not too concerned with trying to make back any investment here. It only costs money because it’s hosted on Sheet Music Plus, or Sheet Music Direct, or whatever they want to call it now. If you’d like to see the inimitable wisdom of simple scales and exercises for rank beginners but can’t afford a two dollar fee, or refuse to pay on principle, I’m sure I’d be willing to part with the PDFs for free.

Extra #5. Silicon Fugues

About ten years ago I was working on a project that never got off the ground (and might never get off the ground), but the project included two fugues. I’ve edited those fugues and put them online now. Well, technically, one of them is a prelude and fugue. These weren’t written with the intention to be performed live, and so I created a MIDI file and used the soundfont of the AdLib chip from the late 80s. I guess I have a thing for chiptunes.

Extra #4. March of the Lawyers

A terribly serious piece for terribly serious times. Originally made for a YouTube video which has since been taken down simply because it’s no longer relevant. This track comes from a tune my brother and I made up as a piano duet way back when we were kids. Free to listen and free to use for whatever purpose you want so long as you’re not making money and you’re crediting me. (Otherwise just contact me and I’ll work something out.)

Extra #3. Dreams of Teflon

This is actually an older tune I had done back in 2017, but I never uploaded it here. There was no impetus for the piece - just fun. It’s a bit cheeky, really. At the time, I didn’t have any means of recording it professionally or even using samples/VSTs to get great sounds. This was before I really understood using DAWs or composing music that wasn’t meant for live instruments. So this is Sibelius audio. It’s free to listen and free to use for whatever purpose you want so long as you’re not making money and you’re crediting me. (Otherwise just contact me and I’ll work something out.)

#10. Two Meditations

Towards the end of 2019 I was approached to create something for a church which had recently purchased some Choirchimes. I couldn’t decide between two separate ideas so I wrote them both. These are designed to be simple and relaxing pieces, both for players and listeners. I have no official recordings, but I do have YouTube sheet music videos you can watch/hear.
